PEP CAD Converter Automation

PEP CAD Converter Automation

Grandview Fab saved 2 hours of engineering time using the automation in the PEP CAD converter.

It took the software only 57 seconds to convert this DXF to a cutter path automatically.

The part is 24” X 42” to be cut from ¼” Aluminum on the Mitsubishi 10K laser.

The PEP software automatically:

  • Converted 716 splines to line segments and arcs (laser controls cannot process splines or ellipses).
  • Combined 2,570 line segments into longer lines so the laser does not have to slow down at intersections.
  • Combined 56 arcs so the laser does not have to slow down.
  • Converted 25,843 short line segments into 7,402 tangent arcs, smoothing out the part geometry and eliminating 18,000 laser slowdowns.

That was done fully automatically, with no programmer work, in only 57 Seconds!

Result: fast, smooth cutting with no heat build-up.

The software then automatically nested the part on an L shaped inventory remnant (See right).

Then the software automatically sequenced the cutouts for best heat control, consistent with a short rapid path.

The cutouts were automatically sequenced by size, smallest first, so there was a maximum amount of metal available to dissipate cutting heat.

Only after the cutouts were sequenced, did the software assign lead-ins to the cutouts, again, fully automatically.

The Result?

221 rapid moves, and only 85 laser head raises required to safely cut the nest.

See the cut part below:

The automation in PEP enables customers to convert, nest, and quote more jobs per day, and the quotes are accurate. The speed of converting and nesting allows customers to respond to quote requests in minutes vs days.
