Cut Quality on ½ inch material jumps dramatically at MPS Custom Fab
The following interview with Paul Chocklett explains how the P.E.P. software enhanced the Trumpf
laser operation at MPS after they switched from Tops to P.E.P.

The pictures below were taken after a job was cut using MPS’s former software…ToPS, and then using the P.E.P. 2006 software. As evidenced in the photo, P.E.P.’s posted code has resulted in cut quality that now enables MPS to be competitive in the 1/2 “ and thicker material cutting market using their laser!
The material, technology table, nozzle size, assist gas pressure, and nozzle standoff were never changed in this side by side comparison. The difference in improving the cut quality between the two photos below was the programming software and the extensive experience of the P.E.P. Technology Support Team.

2. What are you responsible for? Fabrication Department
3. How long has MPS been operating cutting machines? 6 years
4. How many lasers are you responsible for? 1 laser
5. How many years of experience does the most experienced programmer have programming lasers? 7 years
6. How many years of CAD experience does the most experienced programmer have? 5 years
7. When you did take on jobs that required you to cut thicker materials, were you able to deliver?
Due to cut quality limitations we could not run ½ inch jobs with internal holes on the plasma machine. With P.E.P., not only can we laser cut parts with internal cutouts from ½ inch steel, we can now cut up to ¾ material!
8. How will this help your sales? We now have much more manufacturing flexibility for more sales.
